How to Apply

A high-level overview of the process follows:


  1. Submit your expression of interest to
  2. Respite Services Manager will contact you for a brief phone interview to ensure eligibility, and to answer questions you may have
  3. Submit your full application, which will include driver's abstract, criminal record check and other records
  4. Meet with prospective families seeking respite services
  5. Contract is drawn up and you become a contract respite provider

DCLS is seeking to contract additional Respite Providers. Respite Providers provide a temporary break to families and/or caregivers while ensuring the well-being and promote the development of a person with a developmental disability. DCLS seeks to match the person with a developmental disability with a respite provider who enjoys similar interests and activities. 

The successful candidate:

  • Must be 19 years of age or older

  • Valid First Aid & CPR Certificate

  • Doctor's Certificate / Physical

  • Criminal Record Check for anyone in the home over 18 years of age

  • ICBC Driver's Abstract

It takes a time to complete the application process and to ensure that we find the right fit for our respite providers and the people we support.
